Linking Changes in Fatty Acid Composition to Postharvest Needle Abscission Resistance in Balsam Fir Trees

چکیده
Balsam fir needle retention and fatty acid profile changes due to cold acclimation throughout autumn, but little is known about the relationship between these two phenomena. The objective was examine differences in FAs contrasting abscission resistant balsam genotypes autumn early winter. Branches from with low high resistance (NAR) were collected September January analyzed for FA composition. High NAR retained needles 120–130% longer than increased through both genotypes. There approximately a 3:1 ratio of unsaturated: saturated FAs, which by 4% favor unsaturated acids autumn. Palmitic, palmitoleic, linolenic content significantly higher versus genotypes; arachidic, oleic, linoleic, pinolenic, coniferonic, icosadienoic, sciadonic lower low. Linolenic particular interest because it tended decrease point that January. These may be linked an increase abscisic and/or jasmonic synthesis depleting stores promoting postharvest resistance.

Understanding the Physiology of Postharvest Needle Abscission in Balsam Fir
Balsam fir (Abies balsamea) trees are commonly used as a specialty horticultural species for Christmas trees and associated greenery in eastern Canada and United States. Postharvest needle abscission has always been a problem, but is becoming an even bigger challenge in recent years presumably due to increased autumn temperatures and earlier harvesting practices. An increased understanding of p...
متن کاملEvaluation of Changes in Fatty Acid Composition in Three Different Varieties of Olives During the Course of Maturation
ABSTRACT: Olives belong to the family of olea europaea L. is a popular fruit tree. The fruit and the oil extracted from it is consumed worldwide particularly in the Mediterranean regions. In this study changes in the fatty acid composition of the oil extracted from olive fruit during the course of maturation is investigated. This work is concerned with the best harvesting point when oleic acid ...
متن کاملChanges in Fatty Acid Composition during Preparative Thin-layer Chromatography.
n Thin-layer chromatography (TLC) is being used increasingly for the separation of the lipid classes (1, 2) prior to the analysis of their fatty acids by gas-liquid chromatography (GLC). Malins and Mangold (3) have described the separation of the methyl esters of fatty acids of menhaden oil from other lipid constituents and stated “the gas chromatogram of the total methyl ester fraction agreed ...
متن کاملChanges in lens fatty acid composition during galactose cataract formation.
A high level of fat in the diet of galactose-fed weanling rats has been reported to delay the onset of mature cataracts. Groups of rats fed lab chow, sucrose, and galactose-high-fat diets had essentially similar total fatty acid compositions in their lenses, but rats receiving a low level of corn oil in a galactose diet were observed to have differences in the long-chain unsaturated fatty acids...

The degree of unsaturation of fatty acids was higher in ChIorella vulgaris 1 h cells grown with air (low-CO2 cells) than in the cells grown with air enriched with 2% CO2 (high-CO2 cells). The change in the ratio of linoleic acid to a-linolenic acid was particularly significant. This change of the ratio was observed in four major lipids (monogalactosyldiacylglycerol, digalactosyldiacylglycerol, ...
